2ihe Little Red-winged Parrakeet.
P HE bird, which is here reprefented
T of its natural fize, is remarkable for
being the fmalleft of the long-tailed Par-
rots, that I have yet feen.
The bill is formed much like thofe in
the other Parrots, and of a light flefh-
colour: the iris of the eye is of a very
dark hazel-colour; fo that it appears al-
moft black, (contrary to the common co-
lour in the eyes of Parrots, which is
golden or yellow :) the eye is placed in
a plat of bare fkin of a wvhitifih colour.
Immediately beneath the bill it hath a little
fpot of fine red or fcarlet feathers; the
remainder of the head and neck is of a
full grafs-green colour, as are the back,
rump, and tail: the greater quills are of
a dark green colour: all the covert-feathers
of the wings are of a re3difh colour, ex-
cept the finialler feathers round the ridges
of the wings, which are green: the
breaft, belly, thighs, and covert-feathers
beneath the tail, are of a lighter green,
and more inclining to yellow, than thofe
on the upper fide of the bird: the legs and
f et are of a light flefh-colour the toes are
(iifoofed as in other Parrots.
IThis bird was (anno 73n3) the pro-
perty of my good Patron the late Sir Hans
Sloane, Baronet, at whofe houfe, in
London, I drew it for him, and by his
perinifflion made a draught alo for my own
ufe. I can find no defcription that will
agree wvith this bird ; therefore believe it
to be a non-defcript: not that I can abfo-
