or fcooping teeth in the front of the mouth
below: but I could difcover none to
anfwer them on the upper fide; there
appeared only a cavity to receive them. It
had four dog-teeth, two above, and two
beneath: the other teeth further within
the mouth were very jagged. The furr
on the body and limbs was pretty long,
thick, and foft, fianding almoft ereft on
the ILin : the hands were fhaped like
thofe of men or monkies, having flat
nails: the feet were fhaped as in monkies,
fave that the great toe, or thumb, was
larger, and the next toe from the thumb
had a dog's, or (harp claw, the other four
toes having flat nails. The hinder legs
were longer than the fore legs. The tail
was longer than the whole body, pretty
bufhy, and nearly of an equal thickness for
its whole length. All the furr, with the
naked parts of the nofe and infides of the
paws, was of a deep black.
I was informed, that it was a female;
but having a thick furr, and thefe animals
differing from monkies in the parts which
diflinguifli the fexes, they being more
inward in the Maucauco tribe, I cannot
pronounce, on my own knowledge, of
which gender it was. It is now living,
(A. D. i5) and is the property of Mr.
Critington, Clerk to the Society of Sur-
geons, London, who favoured me with
the ufe of it at my own houfe, to take a
drawing at my leifure. It feemed to be a
feeder on vegetables: while I had it, it eat
cakes, bread and butter, and fummer fruits,
it being in July. I did not try it with flefh
meat. It fits up like a monkey when it
feeds, holding its food in its fore paws or
hands.
I a quatre
dents canines, deux en baut et deux en bas;
femblables a' des mains, avec des ongles plats;

aje. II m'a paru qu'ilfef nozuri it de le-
gumes.
:',e in'ofai rifquer de
