Perkes's Metallic Folding Bedstead, Registered July 27, 1850. No. 2390.
This article has lately been introduced by Mr. Samuel Perkes, Birkenhead.
It is of
simple construction, having a joint at each end, which allows either one
or both
ends to be raised or low-
ered to any required ele-
vation. It can be used
either as a Bed, Couch,
Settee, or Crib, as repre-
sented, and will answer all
four different purposes.
The sacking is elastic;
when folded up it occupies
but a small space, being in
one piece as shewn, and
can be unfol ded for use in
a moment. It is also use-
ful for invalids at the
sea-side, or persons tra-
velling; the back can be
fixed in any required posi-
tion. Officers in the service
can thus at once obtain
a couch for the barrack-
room, and a portable bed
either for home or fo-
reign use; whilst as a
spare bed for private fami-
lies it is unequalled; and
from its light appearance
it will be found fit for the
drawing-room or bedchamber, and must prove valuable for hotel proprietors,
hospital committees, asylums, schools, &c. &c. Its weight is from
16 to 20lbs.
