2., Pale wild Daffodil with a yellow Cup, or common Englifh Daffodil. Mill,

THIs fort is a variety of the common Daffodil, which grows naturally
by the Borders of Woods and
Fields in many Parts of England. The Stalk rifes a Foot and a half high,
having two fharp longitut-a
dinal Angles, at the Top comes out a double Flower, inclofed in a thin Spatha
(ýur Sheath)hwhich is
torn open on one Side, to make way for the Flower to come out, and then withers
and remains on the
Top of the Stalk. The Flower is double; the outer Petals are of a pale Brimfione
colour, .and thof in.
the Middle are fome Saffron and other Brimftone Colours. It flowers in March
and April, and after
the Flowers are paft, the Germen turns to a roundifh Capfule, with three
Cells ýfilled with roundijf
black Seeds which ripen in Jul. This fort propagates very faft by parting
the Roots. Mill. Gard.

oblong, four-cornered

having no Styles, but
have oblong, reflexed hairy Capfules, as C, having one Cell open longitudinally,
as D, containing
feveral oval, fhining, coloured Seeds, as E, fixed to the Furrow,
THIs Genus of Plants is ranged in the fecond Setion of Linnxus's thirteenth
Clafs, intitled
POLYANDRIA DIGYNIA, which contains thofe Plants, whofe Flowers have many
Stamina and Germen
or Styles.

THis Sort is the Female Peony; the Roots of this are compofed of feveral
roundifh thick Knobs,
which hang below each other, faftened with ftrings ; the Stalks are green,
and rife about two Fe t
and a half high,/hefe are gar""ihed with Leaves, compofed of
Lobes wh~ich are fe ar-fhaped and entire,.
the Flowers are large and of a deep red Colour; this Sort, when intermixed
witlargegrowing Plants,
in the Borders of large Gardens, will add to the Variety; and the Flowers
are very ornamental in
Bafons or Flower-pots, when placed in Rooms : the Flowers appear in May,
and the Seeds ripen ia
Aututmn. This is propgated by parting the Roots toward the latter end
of Septmbr.
