The BUTTERFLY is from
China: its general colour is a reddifh
orange, variegated with fcollops of black
and yellow round all the wings:
through the middle of each wing paffes
a bed of black, filled with white fpots
of an oval form: there are alfo fome
other fpots and fhadings of black on
the wings, beft delcribed by the figure.
As the under fide of this fly differs
little from the upper, except in being
fainter-coloured, I have omitted giving
any figure of it. I take it to be a non-
defcript.
The above-defcribed bird I received
from my friend Mr, William Bartram;
who fays, that in the month of April
they appear in Penfilvania, where they
are only paffengers to the northward,
being feen with them but for a few days:
they are obferved to feed on infeas.
This bird bath not, to my knowledge,
been either figured or defqribed till

qu'ils vivent d'infeles. 'je ne Aache pas
que cet owjeau eut encore ete' repre0finte 0th
d4ecrit jufyu'd pre/ent.
