   THE Charaaers are exhibited in Page 4, Plate 7" 
   THis Specie is, 
   PAPAVER (8omiferum) calycibus capfulifque glabris, fohiis, ar 
Plant 5o8. Poppy with fmooth Capfules and Empalements, and c 
Papaver hortenfe nigro femine, fylveftre Diofcoridis, nigrum. Plinii 
with black Seeds. Mill. Sp. VIII. 
    Tjiis Sort is a Variety of the common black Poppy, the Seeds o 
the Title of Maw-Seed: this is Annual;' the Stalks rife from two to 
and divide into feveral Branches, and are garniflhed with large Leave 
cut or jagged on their Edges, embracing the Stalks at their Bafe ; t 
the Stalks, and are fucceeded by oval fmooth Capfules filled with bla 
the Seeds ripen the latter End of Auguit. 
    THERE are great Varieties of this Sort, which are variegated of fi 
white, as the Sort reprefented; others purple and white, others are fp 
during their continuance in flower, there are few more beautiful, b 
being of fhort Duration, they arc not much rqgarded. MU. Gard. D

    THE Charaaers are, 
    THE Empalement A is fhort, tubulous, and of one 
of the Butterfly kind; the Standard B, is oval, large, an 
of the Standard ; the Keel, D, is erec, oblong and cc 
is rounded, but the upper is acute ; there are ten Stamin 
terminated by fmall Summits.  In the center is hitua 
fupporting a flender Style, crowned by a Stigma termin 
becomes a long pointed Pod, F, inclofing ftveral oblon 
    THIs Genus of Plants is ranged in the third Se~l 
DIADELPHI.A DECANDRIA, which includes thofe Plan 
two Bodies. 
    GALEGA (Oflicinalis) leguminibus flriais ere6tis, fo

    THis Sort grows naturally in Italy and Spain, bu 
Medicinal ufe. This hath a perrenial Root compofed o 
joited0 from   which arife many channelled hollow Sta 
garnifhed with winged Leaves, compofed of fix or 
terminated by an odd one, which are fmooth and entire; 
they are of the Pea bloffo'il Shape, and of a pale blue C 
appear in June, and are fucceeded by taper Pods about 
of Kid     'ley ihaped Seeds, which ripen toward the End of
