The Rules, which will here be laid down, for the ex. ecuting the pleafing Branch of Painting, of which this Book is to treat, are the Refult of real Prafice, and de- livered without the leaft Referve. In Regard 'to the engraved Defigns, it may be thought, that they might have been better reprefented by Copies from the great Mafters, who have excelled in Flower-Painting; fuch as Baptt/e, Faniuyfen, Yereff, &c. The Author is con- fcious of the Force of this Objeaion; but as many prefer an original Work, for the fake of its original Particula- rity, it is here hofe to draw them immeiately from Nature.
