The Blue and Green Daw.
T HIS bird is here reprefented on the
T copper-plate of its natural bignefs.
The bill is black, a little bowed down-
ward, having an angle on each fide of the
upper mandible near the point. The whole
head, neck, and under fide to the tail, the
lower part of the back, and the tail, are
all of a very fine blue colour, ihaded a
little with purple, having a bright fhining
furface like polilhed metal: the leffer
coverts of the wings, both above and be-
neath, are of the fame fhining blue colour.
The middle of the back, the quills, and
the two rows of coverts above them, are
of a moft fplendid green, refleding gloffes
like burnifhed gold: the covert-feathers
have black tips, which form two rows
acrofs each wing: the infides of the quills,
and under fide of the tail, are of a dufky
black. The tips of the tail-feathers, and
the middle of the belly between the legs,
have the blue feathers tinctured with green.
The legs, feet, and claws are pretty itrong
in proportion, covered with black fcales:
the outer toes adhere a little at their bot-
toms to the middle toes.
I am informed that this bird was brough t
from the ifland of Ceylon in the Eaft-Indies.
It is the property of Mr. Page, Gentleman
to the late R'ighAt Hon. Lord Melcombe.
Mr. Page is hiimfelf a very good draughtif-
man, and fliewed me feverai curious draw-
ings of birds, &c. in water-colours, of his
own hand, with which he has ornamented
his room at Lord Melcombe's houfe in Pall-
