I think the above accounts by two
living witneffes of reputation, and a
dead author of good fame, who knew
nothing of each other, muff confirm
the above accounts: they agree as nearly as
one can reafonably fuppofe they fhould,
when given by different people. I believe
this to be the firft figure and description of
the above-mentioned bird.

7e Little Pin-tailed Grous.  L(
T   H IS bird is figured lefs than the life:
T   it is about the fize of a partridge,
though in fhape it hath more the appear-
ance of a dove, by the length of its wings,
which, when clofed, meafure near eight
inches; whereas in the grey partridge they
meafure only fix: this is the cock bird.
The bill is of a brown or horn colour,
darkeft at the point, which is made much
like thofe of our common poultry : the
nodrils are at the bafe of the upper man-
dible, clofe to the feathers of the fore-
head : the head is of an afh colour; but
on the fides round and under the eyes it
is flained with orange colour: above the
eve is a line of black: the throat from the
bill, more than an inch downwards, is alfo
black, as in the cock-fparrow : the lower
part of the neck before, or the beginning
of the breaft, hath an half-moon-like
fpot of orange colour, bordered above and
beneath with narrow black lines; the points
