      THE Charaters are,

  Lell, opening horizontally, containing roundifh Seeds 
    THIs Genus of Plants is ranged in the firft Se&ion 
 MON OGYNIA, the Flower having five Stamina and c 
     THIs Species is, 
     CELOSIA (Criftata) foliis lanceolato-ovatis recurvis 
 criftatis, Lin. Sp. 297. Celofia with oval fpear Ihaped I 
 Spikes of Flowers. Amaranthus criftatus.  Camer 
 called Cockfcomb. Mill. Sp. II. 
     THIs fort is well known bý the Title of Cockfcor 
 HJead of Flowers refembling a Cocks-comb, of this the 
 Magnitude and Colours, but as they vary from Seed 
 The principal Colours of their ItHeads, are red, purpl 
 a hot Bed in the Spring, and when they are about fix 
 Borders, where they are to remain. This Sort flowej 
 in the Autumn. Mill. Gard. DiOt.

 Atmaranthus (Apapaw; of a Privative, and ,xpw,,Gr. to 
    beitng cropped, does not foon wither, but being dried, 
    Flower Gentle. 
    THE Characters are, 
    IT bath male and female Flowets in the fame 
 Empalement confifts of three or live pointed fpepr-fhap 
 this is common to both Sexes ; the male Flowers have 
 Stamina, which are the fame length with the Empalemt 
 Flowers have an oval Germen, ftpporting three fhort 
 fimple Stigma, the Empalement afterward becomes an 
 which is lodged a fingle-globular Seed. 
    THis Genus of Plants is by Dr. Linnieus ranged i 
entitled MoNAtCIA PENTANDRIA, from their having x 
   THIS Species is, 
   AMARANt'I1US (Tricolor) glomerulis triandris 
lanceolato-ovatis. Lin. Sp. Plant 1403. Flower Gentle 
the Stalks, embracing them, whole Flowers have three 
lhajped. Amaranthus tricolor. Lob. Icon. 25z. i. e. d 
   Tuis fort has been long cultivated in the Gardens I 
are of three Colours, viz, green, yellow and red ; thefe 
are in fall Vigour, the Leaves are large, and clofely fet 
t1he Branches form a Sort of Pyramid, fo that there is no 
full Juftr4 from the Leaves of this Plant being partly 
Botanifts have feparated this Species from the others, 
Poittacus. Mill. Gard. Diat.
